Clarity through Contrast

As someone who focuses on the positive 98% of the time, I love learning new techniques to reframe what isn’t working for me. Michael Losier has an easy way of explaining that we need to know what we DON’T want to identify what we DO want.

Clarity through Contrast is how Michael describes what to do. For any topic, you make a list of all the things you don’t want, don’t like, don’t want to continue, etc. After listing 25-50 statements that describe all the yuckiness associated with this topic, the fun begins!

Take each statement about what you don’t want and look at it in a new way. The easiest question to ask is “so, what DO I want?”

Turn the negative statement upside down until you have a statement about what you want, what you want to feel, what you want to experience, what you want to have, etc. Repeat the process for every statement or phrase on your list.

When you have 25-50 statements about what you want, it is amazing how you’ll feel. Each time I do this exercise, I feel positive, energized, and motivated.

Just reading my statements makes me feel like I am already experiencing what I want and how I want to feel.

Try it. Let me know what happens.
